The Kansas City Chiefs' legendary tight end, Travis Kelce, has long been a force to be reckoned with on the field. As he gears up for yet another Super Bowl appearance on February 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles, conversations about his future beyond the gridiron are gaining traction.

While Kelce remains at the peak of his athletic career, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has already begun speculating about the dynamic player's post-NFL journey. Interestingly, Reid sees a future for Kelce that still revolves around football—but in a very different role.

Travis Kelce: A future coach in the making?

Andy Reid, who has coached some of the league’s finest talents, believes Travis Kelce possesses the qualities needed to thrive as a football coach. In a recent appearance on The Herd With Colin Cowherd, Reid praised Kelce’s understanding of the game and his ability to mentor younger players.

"Travis would be a heck of a football coach," Reid said. "He's able to get up there and explain things and teach these young guys exactly what he sees and feels... He's got a good feel for the game."

Kelce’s high football IQ, coupled with his leadership on and off the field, makes him an ideal candidate for a future coaching role. Throughout his career, the tight end has been known not only for his physical dominance but also for his sharp strategic mind. His knack for reading defenses and executing plays with precision could seamlessly translate into coaching, where decision-making and game awareness are crucial.

Kelce’s Current Focus

Despite these speculations, Travis  Kelce is far from hanging up his cleats anytime soon. Reid emphasized that his star tight end is still performing at an elite level. "He's still a really good football player," Reid stated during The Pat McAfee Show.

"He keeps himself in great shape, never wants to miss a rep in practice, hates coming out of the game—I mean, absolutely hates coming out of the game. I love that part of him."

Even as opposing teams continue to strategize against him, Kelce remains an indispensable part of the Chiefs' offense. His hunger to compete and his dedication to the game suggest that he still has plenty left in the tank. However, when the day finally comes for him to retire, Andy Reid’s vision of Kelce as a coach might just become a reality.
