Louis Rees-Zammit has revealed that he feels happier after switching positions while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars after joining the National Football League (NFL) franchise from the Kansas City Chiefs back in August.
What did Louis Rees-Zammit have to say about the matter?
The former Wales International was signed by the Chiefs following his stint with the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. He managed to spend time with two-time Super Bowl champions training as a running back and featured in special teams.
During the final roster cutdown in the summer, Rees-Zammit missed out on an opportunity with the Kansas City Chiefs. Later on, he went on to secure the international player spot on the Jaguar's practice (reserve) squad ahead of the 2024 season.
Rees-Zammit further shed light on the matter and said that switching to the new receiver position, was always his preference while making the switching from rugby union at the start of the year.
While talking to the Times, Rees-Zammit said, "I always wanted to play receiver, but because of how stacked that wide-receiver room was [with the Chiefs] and how many people there were, I probably didn’t get that opportunity. I don’t hate on that. I learnt the game at running back and I enjoyed it, but ultimately it wasn’t the position for me. I feel much more comfortable at receiver here.”

While being in the practice squad that involves a total of 17 players, they get to train with the main roster and can be called at any point to feature in the NFL matches. This is something that Rees-Zammit feels will help his development throughout the season.
"I’m taking this year, especially switching positions, as a learning year, just trying to get as much as I can under my belt at receiver. If an opportunity arises, then as I said, I’m going to try to take it with both hands and get a place in the team,” Rees-Zammit added.
"For now, as a practice-squad player, I’m just focused on giving our defence the best looks and also whatever routes I’ve got to run, try to run them to the best of my ability and learn every day in the classroom with the receivers and with the receiver coaches, and special teams is massive as well," Rees-Zammit concluded.
The 23-year-old has been in London for the past two weeks as the Jaguars took on Chicago Bears. It was a game that the Jaguars lost 35-16 and will now take on the New England Patriots.
He was part of the NFL Foundation event hosted earlier this week alongside Prince of Wales. The pair posed for a picture together while holding a Jaguars shirt with 'HRH 24' written on the back. They also had some throwing drills and Rees-Zammit mentioned that the Prince of Wales is 'better than me'.
