The Tennessee Titans have officially announced the hiring of Mike Borgonzi as the team’s new general manager, a move that signals a new chapter for the franchise in the National Football League (NFL). Borgonzi takes over from Ran Carthon, who was dismissed last week after just two seasons at the helm.

Borgonzi’s role and contract details

Mike Borgonzi, who has been with the Kansas City Chiefs for over a decade, will now lead the Titans’ football operations. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Borgonzi's deal is a five-year contract with the Titans, setting him up for a significant tenure with the team.

His experience in Kansas City, where he was instrumental in securing four AFC championships and three Super Bowl appearances over the past five seasons, makes him a strong candidate to help guide the Titans back to success.

Titans’ owner Amy Adams statement

In a statement, Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk expressed confidence in Borgonzi’s abilities: “Mike's experience speaks for itself: he has been part of the core team that delivered four AFC championships and three Super Bowls over the past five seasons. It’s the type of standard I want to build here in Tennessee. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and I'm excited for Mike to get started.”

Borgonzi’s experience with the Kansas City Chiefs

Borgonzi's extensive career in the NFL began in 2009 with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he worked in a variety of roles. Most recently, he served as the team's assistant general manager since 2021.

Throughout his tenure, Borgonzi was heavily involved in college and professional scouting, player personnel, and football operations, an experience that will be valuable as he takes on his new role with the Titans.

Titans’ leadership and draft-day decisions

Following the firing of Ran Carthon, Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker led the search for Borgonzi. Brinker will also retain authority over all football matters, with Borgonzi taking the lead in areas such as free agency and the draft.

The upcoming NFL Draft in 2025 will be crucial for the Titans, as the team holds the No. 1 overall pick after a difficult 3-14 season. Borgonzi’s role in shaping the team’s future will be pivotal as the franchise looks to rebuild and reassert itself as a playoff contender.
