According to BBC, Apple Music announced that the Compton-based rapper Kendrick Lamar will be performing at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year three times, Jamal Crawford was hyped after the announcement made by Lamar on social media.
There is only one KDOT: Jamal Crawford
A promotional video was posted by Kendrick Lamar on his Instagram handle, on which the Los Angeles Clippers star commented, "Only one KDOT."
The Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans on 9th February 2025 and it's not the first time that Lamar will perform at Super Bowl. He shared the stage with Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre back in 2022.
While talking to BBC, Kendrick Lamar seemed excited about the upcoming performance and said, "Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one."
The selection of the 17-time Grammy Award winner came at an interesting time when he was having a beef with the Canadian rapper, Drake. As the rapper from Compton is selected for the halftime show, the fans will have enough to argue that in this ongoing beef, he has the upper hand.
Jay-Z discusses the reason behind Kendrick Lamar's selection
The selection for Lamar's performance came at a great time and not-so-great time for Drake. The narrative is now on Lamar's side with rap mogul Jay-Z speaking in his favour.
Since 2019, Jay-Z has been the main man who is responsible for selecting the artist who will perform during the Super Bowl. He is in partnership with the National Football League (NFL) through Roc Nation to organize the Super Bowl halftime shows.
When Jay-Z was asked why he selected Kendrick Lamar, he said, "His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come. He is a once-in-a-generation artist.”
