The Indian Cricket Team has secured its spot in the Super Fours Stage of the Asia Cup 2023. After their first match against arch-rivals Pakistan was washed out due to rain, they also clinched a 10-wicket victory against Nepal, thanks to the Duckworth/Lewis
(DLS) Method.

In the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma candidly admitted that his team could be even better than they were, "We haven't been at our best, but a few guys are coming out after months out of the game. Once we move ahead in the Super Fours, there's no room for complacency."

He also noted that while the team's bowling was satisfactory, the fielding needed improvement. "First game, under pressure, Hardik and Ishan got us into a good position. Today our bowling was okay, but the fielding was below par," Sharma added, highlighting the crucial roles played by Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan in stabilising the team during tense moments.

Rohit and Shubman Gill's Unbeaten Stand

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill remained not out, scoring 74 and 67 respectively, while chasing a revised target of 145 in 23 overs. Gill shared his thoughts on their partnership, stating, "He (Rohit) likes to take the bowlers on aerial, and I like to hit more boundaries than sixes, so we complement each other."

Shubman Gill was appreciative of the bowling effort of the Nepal team, saying, "They bowled very well with the new ball, they challenged us. We knew once the ball gets wet, it'll get easier for the batters. That's what the talk was in the dressing room."

Meanwhile, India’s 15-man squad for ODI World Cup 2023 will be announced in a press conference on September 5. Sports Tak has learned that Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar will address the press conference in Kandy at 1:30 PM IST a day after India’s group stage game against Nepal at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
