Australia travel to India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which kicks off in India in February with the hope of winning the coveted competition for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Ahead of the Test series, their star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has pointed out the influence of former skipper Virat Kohli and believes that the veteran is the one player Australia need to look out for.
"Kohli is a world-class batsman and has returned to form and he is one of the best Test batters, so he could be the biggest threat once again for us," Stoinis said while speaking to ANI.
"But one player who will be missed this season badly is Rishabh Pant. He is unfortunately not with the team. I wish he recovers soon and comes back to the field,” he added about the injured wicketkeeper batter.
Stoinis is also confident about beating the current champions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and will not give up on winning the ultimate prize. "We don't want to lose our trophy this time even though our team never wants to lose it as it could be the third time but we don't want to give up this year,” said Stoinis.
The 33-year-old Stoinis has noted the spin-friendly tracks of India, which, he feels will benefit the home side. But he is nonetheless confident in the ability that his team carries. “Our squad is too strong and facing India on their soil is a bit difficult as we have to play on spin tracks over there,” the Aussie all-rounder said.
"India have some specialist bowlers like Ashwin and Jadeja. They can really bowl well but we are also coming with some specialist spinners, so you can expect a good competition this time,” he added.
