Rohit Sharma's brigade and Australia are gearing up for the fourth Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series which will be played from March 9 to March 13 in Ahmedabad. Team India had a splendid start to the four-match series as they registered emphatic victories in the first two Tests played in Nagpur and Delhi. However, they were brought to their knees by the visitors as Rohit Sharma & Co. suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Steve Smith-led Australia in the third Test to leave the series' equation at 2-1. It is also imperative that India win the fourth Test in Ahmedabad in order to make it to the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-2023 final which will be held at the Oval from June 7.
Meanwhile, Rohit, who is leading Team India in his first major series as skipper, will have a chance to emulate the legendary Sunil Gavaskar's feat in the fourth Test. Rohit is on cusp of topping the run-scoring charts in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at home.
Rohit has scored 207 runs in three Tests riding on a splendid century in the first Test as he is the only batter to have crossed the 200-run mark in the series so far. If the 35-year-old managed to score a century in the fourth Test, he would become the second Indian captain after Gavaskar to crack more than one century in India versus Australia Test encounters. After whacking a brilliant 120 in the first Test, Rohit became the sixth Indian skipper to have belted a ton against Australia in Test cricket in home conditions. Meanwhile Gavaskar is the lone India skipper to have cracked two centuries. The batting great had an exceptional outing in Test series against Australia in 1979 where he scored 425 runs in a six-match series against a Kim Hughes-led side. Gavaskar had clobbered couple of tons and as many half centuries in that series.
Notably, MS Dhoni is the leading run-getter as India skipper against Australia in home Tests, having amassed 643 runs, including a double hundred and four fifties in 8 Tests.
