Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reckons that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been fooled by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as they have agreed to the hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 which is scheduled to take place next year.
Basit also believes that ICC is not thinking about Pakistan they are just thinking about the broadcasters of the marquee event. As sports tak earlier reported PCB and BCCI made an in-principle agreement that Pakistan matches to be played in Colombo in the 2026 T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be hosted by Sri Lanka and India.
“Everybody got to know that it is going to be a hybrid model, which was also agreed upon by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, but with the condition that the same model will be in force for the 2026 ICC event (T20 World Cup) in India. Now it is being said that in 2027 or 2028, the women’s World Cup hosting rights will be given to Pakistan… Everybody will feel ‘wow! Not one but two ICC events in Pakistan!’ But it’s being done so that in 2026 the Pakistan team goes to India, and the Indian women’s team will then come to Pakistan. The broadcaster won’t suffer any losses,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
Latest updates on Champions Trophy and BCCI, PCB's agreement
As Sports Tak reported in July, The Champions Trophy will be played in a hybrid model where PCB will be the host and 10 matches will take place in Pakistan. India's all three league matches including a high-voltage clash against Pakistan will be played in Dubai. Apart from league matches the semifinal and final of the marquee event will also take place in Dubai and in case the Men in Blue fails to qualify for semis then Karachi and Rawalpindi will host knockouts and title decider.
For the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, BCCI and PCB had an in-principle agreement where Pakistan will play all their league matches in Colombo and the venue for the semifinal and final is yet to be decided.
