Jammu-born cricketer Vanshaj Sharma faced BCCI's brunt for for submitting multiple birth certificates.

An emerging crickter from Bishnah in Jammu, Vanshaj Sharma has found himself in the midst of a controversy that has effectively put a pause on his budding cricketing career. The BCCI in a decisive move imposed a two-year ban on Sharma for submitting multiple birth certificates bearing different dates of birth.

The young player's journey started in Jammu, but Sharma later migrated to Bihar, aiming to progress his cricketing endeavors under the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA). Addressing this shift, Brigadier Anil Gupta, the chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), clarified, "He is presently with Bihar Cricket Association. He is not a JKCA player."

Digging deeper into Sharma's registration history, Gupta added, "He was originally registered by us in 20-21 as a U19 player. He has never played for JKCA. He later became affiliated with the Bihar Cricket Association and was recorded as a U-23 player with a different DOB (date of birth). The discrepancies in his birth certificates were identified by the BCCI, leading to his ban."

The JKCA, in an official statement, emphasized the severity of the ban, noting, "Sharma has been prohibited from participating in all BCCI tournaments for a span of two years, effective from October 27."

The repercussions of such a disciplinary action stretch beyond the duration of the ban. The statement further elaborated that once Sharma completes his ban period, he "can only partake in the Senior Men’s Tournament orchestrated by the BCCI and will be barred from any age-specific tournaments of the cricket board."

The authenticity of players' records is paramount in ensuring fair play and equal opportunities. The BCCI's actions in this case highlight their commitment to this cause. The JKCA's release added, "..since he was first registered by the JKCA in 2021-22, his data was archived with the BCCI. Even after his association transition, he was detected for his birth certificate inconsistencies."

JKCA, emphasizing the importance of abiding by the rules and maintaining transparency, warned against resorting to deceptive measures. They stated, “JKCA has been consistently communicating to players about the significance of authenticity, cautioning that repercussions from the BCCI can be detrimental to one's cricketing journey.”
