Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah announced on July 27 that there will be changes made to the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule. Shah clarified that the changes are not just specific to the India vs Pakistan clash which was scheduled for October 15 at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. He revealed that the BCCI received requests from two to three member boards to change the schedule.

Also, Shah made it clear that these requests from cricket board are related to the dates of the matches and not the venue. Earlier, it was reported that the India vs Pakistan clash may be shifted out of Ahmedabad due to Navratri.

Good news for spectators

Apart from the rescheduling, Shah said that the main focus ahead of the quadrennial event is to improve the stadium infrastructure to provide fans a better experience. As a result, all state boards have been instructed to be ready with all preparations for the World Cup.

BCCI is also planning to facilitate drinking water for all stands and has partnered with Coke which is also an ICC World Cup sponsor.

Massive update on Bumrah

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return to international arena with the Ireland T20I series which is scheduled to be played from August 18 to 23. Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) recovering from the back injury. Bumrah has been bowling at full pace in the nets and is all set for a comeback.

Bumrah’s return is a big boost for India head of ODI World Cup. If Bumrah remains injury-free, he may play in the Asia Cup which will be played in Sri Lanka. As Asia Cup will be played in the ODI format, it will help Bumrah prepare for the mega event starting in October.

Last week, BCCI also provided a medical update on Bumrah and pacer Prasidh Krishna who is currently at the NCA as well.

“The two fast bowlers are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organise. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games,” the BCCI said in the release.
