Kane Williamson's absence from the playing eleven was felt deeply as he was sidelined due to a thumb fracture. The injury occurred during New Zealand's match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 13. Owing to this setback, Williamson is slated to miss a some of the upcoming matches, but hopes are high for his return during the competition's latter stages.
In the interim, the reins of captaincy have been handed over to Tom Latham, who has already led New Zealand to back-to-back four victories in the ongoing ODI World Cup. Additionally, Tom Blundell has been called as Williamson's backup for the World Cup roster.
Despite Williamson's inability to participate actively in the game, his commitment to the team was evident. In a gesture that speaks volumes about his leadership and dedication, Williamson turned waterboy and was seen carrying drinks for his teammates.
