While Rohit Sharma took a big jump in the latest ODI rankings, Pakistan's pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi rocketed to no.1 spot.

Rohit Sharma has gone past Virat Kohli in the ICC's newly released ODI Rankings after his recent match-winning knock which helped India beat England by 100 runs in the ongoing World Cup 2023. Not just this, India's batting phenom also closed gap on ODI's Numero Uno Babar Azam in the batting standings, while Pakistan's pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi became ODI's World no.1.

Notably, Rohit's sensational 87-run knock against England catapulted him to no.5 in the batting rankings while Gill is just two points away from dethroning Babar. But what caught everyone's attention was Shaheen Afridi's surge to top of the ICC ODI bowler rankings.

Afridi's consistent performances have been a major boost for Pakistan throughout the tournament. His recent three-fer in Pakistan's victory against Bangladesh not only bolstered Men in Green's chances of advancing to the semi-finals but also positioned him as the joint highest wicket-taker alongside Australia's Adam Zampa. Both pace and spin talents have grabbed an impressive 16 wickets each in their World Cup campaign.

Afridi's rapid ascent in the rankings marks the first instance in his illustrious career where he has secured the No.1 position in any cricket format. In the process, Afridi dethroned Australia's Josh Hazlewood from the no.1 spot while India's Mohammed Siraj, and South Africa's Keshav Maharaj each dropped by one place. The spinning duo of India's Kuldeep Yadav and Afghanistan's Mujeeb Ur Rahman made notable progress, moving up by two positions within the top 10.

Meanwhile, as far as batting rankings are concerned, Pakistan's captain Babar currently holds a slim lead at the top, albeit with his margin reduced to a mere two rating points. Azam's performance against Bangladesh contributed to this slip. However, his closest rival, Gill, despite having an opportunity to overtake, has amassed only 104 runs in his four World Cup appearances so far. Other noteworthy movements in the batting lineup include Australia's David Warner ascending one spot to fourth, courtesy of his impressive 413 runs in the tournament. India's captain Rohit made a significant leap, moving up three places to rank fifth, thanks to his commendable 398 runs in the tournament. Meanwhile, Kohli is firmly placed on seventh spot. Additionally, Netherlands' captain Scott Edwards showcased a meteoric rise, climbing 11 spots to claim the 16th position.

In the all-rounder segment, Bangladesh's captain Shakib Al Hasan retains his dominant position at the helm. South Africa's left-arm sensation Marco Jansen and New Zealand's young prodigy Rachin Ravindra also made notable strides, moving to ninth and 17th places, respectively.
