Inzamam ul Haq, the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team, has resigned from his post after the team's poor performance in the ongoing World Cup 2023. Pakistan are currently sixth in the points table, with only one win from their first five matches.
Haq's resignation comes amid mounting pressure from fans and pundits, who have been critical of his team selection decisions. Pakistan have struggled to find consistency in the tournament, and their batting has been particularly disappointing.

In addition, the termination of Haq's contract as chief selector by the PCB could create a significant financial burden for the board. Reports emerging from media in Pakistan suggest that the board may be compelled to pay Haq a substantial sum of approximately PKR 15 million. This disbursement equates to a monthly salary of 2.5 million rupees which would be allocated over six months.
Haq's dismissal is further complicated by his involvement in potential conflicts of interest. As it emerges, Haq is a shareholder in "Yazo International Limited," a company owned by cricketers' agent Talha Rehmani.
This association has raised eyebrows, given that Rehmani represents some of Pakistan's leading cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi. Further muddying the waters is the fact that Rizwan also holds co-ownership of the same firm.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations of conflict of interest in the team selection process.

This comes after the PCB was hit by Babar Azam and his WhatsApp conversations that were leaked to the media, with reports emerging that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf allegedly gave the green light.
Following Ashraf's actions, questions have arisen about whether Pakistan's captain gave permission to share his private chats. It should be noted that leaking personal messages can be considered a breach of privacy.
