England all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE. Curran complained of back pain after Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) clash against Rajasthan Royals on October 2.

“Results of the scan revealed the injury. He will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team,” England Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.

Sam has been replaced by his brother Tom Curran, who was earlier in England’s World Cup squad reserves. In addition, left-arm pacer Reece Topley will be travelling with the team as a travelling reserve. Topley has played 6 T20Is and 13 ODIs taking five and 20 wickets respectively.

Sam played just two games in the second leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The 23-year-old replaced Dwayne Bravo in both games as MS Dhoni wanted the Caribbean to be fit for the playoffs and not overburden him.

Sam was unimpressive with the ball as he remained wicketless and leaked 56 and 55 runs against Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He got the chance to bat against KKR but could score only four runs in the run chase.
