Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021 final between Australia and New Zealand tonight (November 14) at Dubai International Stadium, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar gave a piece of golden advice to Kane Williamson to fill the spot of an injured Devon Conway. According to Gavaskar, the other left-hand batter, James Neesham should be promoted in the batting order because of his hitting ability for the final.
“I don't think New Zealand will look to make too many changes unless they are struggling around the 13th and 14th over and have not got too many runs. Then they might have Neesham going up. We have seen the way Neesham turned the game around against England," Gavaskar told India Today.
Moreover, the former Indian opener believes missing out on a quality player like Conway will make a huge impact.
"It will make a huge impact because Devon Conway is a quality player. We have seen him at the Test level. He made a double hundred on his Test debut. He's been in very good form these last 12 months. As a batsman, he has scored 1000 runs. He is a wicketkeeper, he is a left-hander," the 72-year-old added.
Earlier, Conway had got himself injured in the first semi-final of the event against England where the southpaw was seen punching his bat after getting dismissed by England’s part-time spinner, Liam Livingstone. The southpaw had played a crucial knock of 46 off 38 balls in the semi-final.
The absence of the wicketkeeper-batter means New Zealand have to bring another wicket-keeper in the playing XI and with all likeliness, Tim Siefert will come back in the XI for the encounter against the Aussies.
