India bowler Jasprit Bumrah makes a point to umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat after a delay in play during day three of the Third Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 12, 2025 in London, England.

Story Highlights:

Bumrah picked up 12 wickets in two outings of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.

England are leading 2-1 in five-Test series against India.

Shubman Gill-led India are currently trailing 1-2 in the five-Test match series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 after three matches. Interestingly, Team India have lost both Tests where Jasprit Bumrah has featured and in fact India have won 70 per cent of the Tests that Bumrah does not play, and only win a little over 40 per cent of the games when Bumrah is in the team.

Team India are currently gearing up for the fourth Test, which will take place from 23 to 27 July at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. Australia legend Greg Chappell has said that India must end their obsession with Jasprit Bumrah. In a column at ESPNcricinfo, Chappell said that cricket is a team sport, and India can only win matches on the day they turn up as a unit.

"The obsession with whether he plays or doesn't is missing the point. India have won plenty of Tests without him recently. The key is not individual brilliance, it's collective performance. Teams win when everyone does their job. When the captain makes sure each player is clear, confident, and committed to the plan. That's the formula," Greg Chappell wrote.

Bumrah is currently the second-highest wicket-taker after Mohammed Siraj with 12 scalps in four innings, including two five-wicket hauls. Earlier, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that Bumrah will feature in the fourth Test match.

“We’ve got him for one of the last two Tests, and it’s pretty obvious with the series on the line — Manchester — so there will be a leaning towards playing him.

“But again, if we look at all the factors — you know, how many days of cricket are we going to get up there? What do we feel is our best chance of winning that game? And then how that fits in together with the Oval, and looking at the last two games holistically as part of the series,” he said.
