Torrential rains played party-poopers for Team India on July 24 (Monday) in Trinidad. Day 5 of the second Test match between India and West Indies was washed out without a ball being bowled and, thus, the visitors were denied the chance to whitewash the hosts in the two-match Test series. Nonetheless, Rohit Sharma-led India secured the series and the trophy by emerging victorious by a margin of 1-0.

Indian batters led by skipper Rohit and former captain Virat Kohli enjoyed a field day against a toothless Windies bowling attack in the recently-concluded series. Both batters scored a century each in the series with Rohit hitting the three-figure mark in the first Test while Kohli did the same in the second Test.

Former India captain and legendary batter, Sunil Gavaskar reacted to India's star batters' solid display against a lackluster bowling attack and said that it was always bound to happen. Gavaskar said that the selectors should take a different approach and side with young players for a tour against a below-par team.

"The runs scored by Rohit and Kohli against this West indies attack begs the question what did the selectors learn that they didn't know already. Wouldn't it have been better to try out some youngsters and see how they take to Test cricket or is it that the selectors don't want any sort of challenge from the younger lot to the established players," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

"Now that Ajit Agarkar has come on board as the Chairman of the selection committee let's see if there is going to be any change in the approach to building a team for the future or if it's going to be the same old story of the Indian team being the bridesmaid but not the bride," he added.
