Ravindra Jadeja is unlikely to be a part of India squad before the ODI series against West Indies starting July 22. According to Sports Tak sources, Jadeja, who was named vice-captain for the three-match ODI series, has a niggle on his knee. So far, the extent of his injury has not been determined.
It is possible that Jadeja could be rested for the entire ODI series as they do not want to aggravate his injury on left knee. However, he could be back for the five-T20I series later this month. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official announcement. If Jadeja does not play the entire ODI series, they will have to name a new deputy.
Earlier in the day, KL Rahul tested positive for Covid-19. Rahul is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, undergoing rehab. Rahul has been selected for the T20I series. Recently, he had his groin surgery in Germany. Even if he recovers from Covid, his return will be subjective to clearing the fitness test.
Jadeja played his last T20I against England in the recently-concluded T20I series. He contributed with an unbeaten 46 in the Nottingham T20I. It was also the southpaw's highest score in T20Is.
