Sanju Samson jumps one spot in Orange Cap race with cameo against Punjab Kings; Riyan Parag misses opportunity to pip Virat Kohli

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) got back to winning ways with a thrilling win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 13. There was just one change in the Orange Cap race as RR skipper Sanju Samson moved up one spot. 
 

Samson scored 18 runs from 14 balls before getting dismissed lbw Kagiso Rabada in the run chase. He Samson went past Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill. The wicketkeeper-batter has 264 runs from six games at an average of 66 and strike rate of 155.29. He has scored three half-centuries in the season so far. 
 

Samson's in-form teammate Riyan Parag had a chance to pip Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Virat Kohli. But Parag departed for an 18-ball 23. He is second on the list with 284 runs from six games at an average of 71 including three half-centuries. Kohli is on top with 319 runs from six games at an average of 79.75 including one century and two half-centuries.

Changes expected after double-header Sunday

Kohli will remain unchallenged on top after the double-header Sunday. Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Nicholas Pooran may move up from ninth spot to top five, if he scores a half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Pooran has 178 runs from five games at an average of 89 including one half-century. He may take GT top-order batter Sai Sudharsan's spot. Sudharsan has 226 runs from six games at an average of 37.67.
