Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has backed Rajvardhan Hangargekar to go for big bucks in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he thinks the talented youngster has the potential to attract 5-10 bids in the upcoming auctions. Hangargekar, 19, is currently involved with the India Under-19 squad where they have reached the semi-finals of the competition.
“This player will certainly be picked at the IPL auction. Which franchise I cannot predict, but he will surely be purchased. His name is Rajvardhan Hangargekar.
“He is a right-arm medium pacer, who can bowl the inswinger very well. Ishant Sharma is the only one who has the gift among present Indian right-arm pacers. Inswing can usually tuck in batters, which is why I feel he will be in demand,” Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
Hangargekar, who has been one of the best players for the India U-19 team has so far scalped five wickets and scored 39 runs. He along with Vicky Ostwal have been significant contributors with the ball for the team. The U-19 team recently exacted revenge on the Bangladesh U-19 in the quarter-final. The Tigers had beaten India in the final of the 2020 U-19 World Cup.
India's U-19 team, still undefeated, will be buying for a place in the final as they take on Australia U-19 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Wednesday (February 2). The Indian team will be eying for a fourth consecutive final appearance while also trying to win the junior edition for a record fifth time.
“He is also a strong lower middle-order hitter. The power he generates when he hits the ball is incredible. He should attract at least 5-10 bids. Make sure to watch him out,” Ashwin concluded.
Ashwin, on the flip side, like Hangargekar, will be eyeing a franchise after he was released by the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the end of last season. The IPL mega auctions are set to take place in Bangalore on February 12 and 13. This time there will be two more teams that will be participating in the premier competition, thereby increasing the chances of young players to get picked by a franchise.
