IPL 2022: 10 teams to take part in IPL auction; 1,214 cricketers registered

For the first time since 2011, 10 teams are going to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions and 1,214 cricketers have registered for the IPL 2022 player auction.

 

On January 20, 2022, the IPL player registration was closed and 1214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas players) had registered for the grand IPL auction.

 

Out of these 1214 players, 270 cricketers are capped, 903 cricketers are uncapped and 41 cricketers are associate players.

 

Out of the 270 capped cricketers, Indian cricketers are 61 in total and the rest of the 209 capped players are from the international circuit.

 

International cricketers

Cricketers from Australia, South Africa, Bhutan, Namibia, Oman and many other countries will take part in the upcoming IPL auction.

  

Out of the 903 uncapped cricketers there are 143 players who previously had taken part in IPL seasons. And 6 uncapped international cricketers had previously featured in IPL tournaments.

 

There are 692 total uncapped Indian cricketers for this year’s IPL auction and 62 uncapped international cricketers will take part in the auction this time.

 

In total 33 cricketers have been retained by the IPL teams. The existing 8 IPL teams retained 27 cricketers in total and the 2 new IPL teams on the other hand, picked up 6 cricketers.

 

Two new teams

The two new teams that will participate in this season’s IPL are Ahmedabad and Lucknow. Earlier, Ahmedabad had signed in Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya and Indian batsman Shubman Gill. 

 

Lucknow franchise on the other hand, successfully managed to sign KL Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi and Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

 

KL Rahul is expected to lead his new franchise- Lucknow. Rahul who previously led the Punjab Kings team was roped in by the Lucknow franchise for Rs 17 crore. In the last season’s IPL Rahul was in terrific form in terms of batting. 

 

 Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya who was previously a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in IPL will lead the Ahmedabad franchise. Pandya was signed by the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 15 crore.

 

Rashid Khan who was previously a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was roped in for Rs 15 crore as well. Gill on the other hand, who had featured for the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise was signed for Rs 8 crore.
