Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went into the first day of the auction in search for their next skipper and they got him for Rs 12.25 crore in the first round itself. KKR roped in only five players on the first day and spend big bucks for four of them. On the second day of the mega auction KKR signed Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane (Rs 1 crore).

Their first pick was former Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Shreyas Iyer. KKR roped in him for a whopping Rs 12.25 crore. Another big pick from the first round was Australian Test team skipper Pat Cummins for a fee of Rs 7.25 crore. Later, Indian all-rounder Nitish Rana was brought by KKR for Rs 8 crore. Shivam Mavi was brought back too for Rs 7.25 crore. Also, they included wicketkeeper-batter Sheldon Jackson for Rs 60 lakh.

They were led by England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan, whose excellent decision making skills were marred by his underwhelming batting and he was one of the many players released by the side. They did retain West Indian duo of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, who have spearheaded their bowling department over the last few seasons.
Other retentions were opener Venkatesh Iyer, who was the revelation from the previous season and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who is another key player for the Kolkata-based franchise.
The highly touted Caribbean all-rounder Russell has some good numbers against his name as far as his performance in the IPL is concerned. In 84 matches, the 33-year-old has mustered 1700 runs with nine fifties including 72 scalps while Narine also has an impressive statistics as he has taken 143 wickets and has scored 954 runs in a total of 134 matches.
Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy snared 36 wickets in just 31 matches that he has played so far in the IPL.
Among the big names who were released by KKR were, Shubman Gill, Rana, Cummins and their former skipper Dinesh Karthik.
