1,214 cricketers  have registered for the upcoming auction of IPL 2022 and 10 teams are going to be a part of the grand auction but this year’s IPL auction will miss some famous names of world cricket as players like Ben Stokes, Mitchell Starc, Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Chris Gayle will not be a part of the upcoming IPL auction.

English cricketers doubtful

Participation of English players in IPL recently became a matter of huge debate after the English team had to suffer a humiliating 4-0 defeat against the Aussies in the recently-concluded Ashes Test series.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had previously planned to restrict the English cricketers’ participation in the IPL. England Test team skipper Joe Root had communicated after the fifth Ashes Test that he will not be able to feature in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Australian pacer, Starc on the other hand, had previously expressed his plans of making a comeback to IPL but now it is learnt that the left-arm pacer will not be a part of the upcoming IPL auction.

The schedule of the IPL was expected to overlap with the England’s Test cricket calendar and the initial phase of the T20 tournament, in all likelihood, will clash with England’s first Test match against New Zealand. And in that scenario, it would have been really difficult for the English players to feature in the IPL 2022 edition.

No Gayle this time

Apart from the English and Aussie players, one big surprise came from West Indies as Chris Gayle did not register himself for the IPL 2022 auctions.

Gayle had previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings.

Gayle has scored 4965 runs in IPL at an average of 39.72. He has notched 31 half-centuries and 6 centuries. The 42-year-old batsman has hit most number of sixes (357 sixes) in IPL.

Two new IPL teams will be taking part in the upcoming auction. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new teams. India’s KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow team and Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be the skipper of the Ahmedabad side.
