South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje is likely to play for Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 7 (Thursday). A source in the know of things told Sports Tak that "he bowled at the warm ups yesterday in full capacity."

Nortje's availability

“This is really good signal for the team and also for him. Team physio will be screening him and after that the team management will take a call,” the source further added.

Notably, Nortje has been out of competitive cricket since last November’s T20 World Cup. The 28-year-old South Africa pacer was suffering from a back and hip injury.

On the other hand, Australian duo of Mitchell Marsh and David Warner also did not feature for DC in their first two matches. Marsh was ruled out of Australia’s limited-overs series against Pakistan due to a hip injury.

On the other hand, opening batsman Warner arrived in India after the completion of Australia's Test series against Pakistan. Warner and Marsh are expected to be available for selection soon.

DC in IPL 2022

The Delhi-based team are currently at fourth spot (two points) in the IPL standings.

In their opening match of the IPL 2022 edition, Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by four wickets. Batting first, the five-time champions had registered a formidable total of 177/5 in 20 overs. MI wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan played a brilliant knock of 81 (not out) off 48 balls to help his side in reaching a defendable total.

DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav had picked up three wickets in that match. On the other hand, pacer Khaleel Ahmed claimed two wickets against MI.

In reply, opening batter Tim Seifert (21 runs off 14 balls) was dismissed in the fourth over of the innings. But Prithvi Shaw (38 runs off 24 balls) and Lalit Yadav (48 not out off 38 balls) registered a solid partnership of 40 runs off 31 balls to help their side in avoiding the early danger. Eventually, DC successfully reached the total with 10 balls remaining.

But in the second match of their IPL 2022 season, DC had to concede a 14-run defeat against Gujarat Tiitans (GT). Batting first, the Hardik Pandya-led side posted a total of 171/6 in 20 overs. But in reply, DC could manage to score 157 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs.
