The million dollar question still remains unanswered as to when the legendary MS Dhoni will announce his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having served Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since IPL's inception in 2008, Dhoni has clinched four titles in his illustrious career and has reached the fag end of his illustrious career.
Many cricket pundits have predicted that IPL 2023 could be Dhoni's last dance but the way the two-time World Cup winner is going about the game, it looks like he still have much cricket left in him.
Meanwhile, CSK's batting coach Mike Hussey has given an honest remark on Dhoni's retirement ahead of team's last league match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley stadium on Saturday (May 19). In the pre-match presser former Austrlia skipper answered the million dollar question and said that the only person in the entire world who knows about Dhoni's IPL retirement is Dhoni himself.
"That is the thing we have not spoken about. Whether he is playing his last IPL or not only he knows. We have no idea. He is hitting sixes and finishing off games," Hussey said in the pre-match conference.
"From my point of view as a batting coach, he is still batting really well. He is still motivated to keep coming into the training and working on his game, he is hitting the ball well. We have seen him lighting up the innings and finish things off really well. He has still got that six-hitting ability. So, while he is enjoying it and still contributing to the team, then there is no reason why he cannot keep going, maybe for another 5 years (chuckles)... we do not know it is all up to MS," he concluded.
Hussey also admitted that the support CSK have got as a team is only because of Dhoni.
"First of all the support we have got as a team because of MS is amazing. Not everybody gets that. It lifts you as a team and the support MS Dhoni has earned is incredible"
Dhoni's CSK are on cusp of making it to the IPL 2023's playoffs as they have 15 points in a total of 13 matches and if they manage to win the last league match against DC, they will confirm their top-4 place.
