Former champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) are gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday (April 19).
While Sanju Samson's Royals are heading into the match on the back of three straight victory, KL Rahul's Giants lost their last match. In their previous encounter, RR pulled off a stunning win against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) riding on a spectacular knock from their captain Sanju Samson, who struck a blistering 32-ball 60 which was well coupled with lightning show from Shimron Hetmyer.
Meanwhile, right ahead of the clash between Royals and Giants, India's legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh drew parallel between Samson and the great MS Dhoni and also pitched for the former's inclusion in the Indian team looking at his recent exploits.
"We've seen another captain's knock from Sanju. I have said in the past and still believe that he should be a regular feature in the Indian national side (in white ball format). He plays spinners and fast bowlers with equal ease. He knows how to absorb pressure and is a strong-willed player. He has faith in his abilities, just like MS Dhoni," Harbhajan told on Star Sports show.
While chasing GT's target of 178, the inaugural IPL season's winners didn't have the best possible start as they lost their star openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply at the scores of 0 and 1 respectively.
However, Sanju held the fort and later paired up with the explosive Hetmyer and guide Royals to victory.
In a total of five matches Sanju has amassed a total of 157 runs riding on two fifties with a stunning strike rate of 165. The IPL 2022's runners-up are reigning supreme on the IPL 2023's points table with four victories out of five encounters.
