The regular season of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 came to a thrilling end on May 21 (Sunday). With so much riding on the last day, the cash-rich tournament provided yet another day of exhilarating cricket as millions of cricket fans around the world marveled at the performance of three contrasting, yet phenomenal batters. For the first time in IPL history, three batters scored a century on a single day. Mumbai Indians' Cameron Green, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Virat Kohli and Gujarat Titans' Shubman Gill played incredible knocks to provide a fitting finish to the regular season.
A total of 70 matches have been played so far in IPL 2023, and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After just under two months of breathtaking cricket, IPL 2023 has moved to its most important phase - playoffs.
Four teams have booked their place in the last-four stage of the glitzy league. Defending champions Gujarat Titans ended the regular season as the best team in the competition. Hardik Pandya's men topped the points table by winning 10 out of their 14 matches.
Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings finished in second with 17 points in their bag after winning eight out of the 14 matches they played.
Lucknow Super Giants finished third in the points table. with 17 points and eight wins in the regular season. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians became the last team to book their place in the playoffs. Rohit Sharma's men finished fourth in the points table with eight wins and 16 points in the regular season.
