The regular season of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 came to a thrilling end on May 21 (Sunday). With so much riding on the last day, the cash-rich tournament provided yet another day of exhilarating cricket. A total of 70 matches have been played so far in IPL 2023, and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After just under two months of breathtaking cricket, IPL 2023 has moved to its most important phase - playoffs.
Four teams have booked their place in the last-four stage of the glitzy league. On the contrary, six franchises saw their dreams of winning the coveted title come to a screeching halt at different junctures in the regular season.
Let's take a look at the points table:
1. Gujarat Titans: Defending champions ended the regular season as the best team in the competition. Hardik Pandya's men topped the points table by winning 10 out of their 14 matches.
2. Chennai Super Kings: Four-time champions finished second with 17 points in their bag after winning eight out of the 14 matches they played.
3. Lucknow Super Giants: Krunal Pandya's men finished third in the points table, with 17 points and eight wins in the regular season.
4. Mumbai Indians: Five-time champions became the last team to book their place in the playoffs. Rohit Sharma's men finished fourth in the points table with eight wins and 16 points in the regular season.
5. Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson's finished in fifth place on the points table. They won seven games and lost as many matches in 14 contests played so far. The Royals earned 14 points with an NNR of 0.148.
6. Royal Challengers Bangalore: Faf du Plessis' team finished in sixth place with seven wins in 14 matches this season.
7. Kolkata Knight Riders: In 14 matches played, KKR lost seven games and won seven contests. They finished in seventh place with an NRR of -0.239.
8. Punjab Kings: The Punjab-based franchise finished with six wins in 14 matches played. They bagged 12 points with an NRR of -0.304.
9. Delhi Capitals: David Warner-led Delhi could only secure five wins in a total of 14 matches played so far with an NRR of -0.808.
10. Sunrisers Hyderabad: The Orange Army finished at the bottom of the points table. They earned 8 points with an NRR of -0.590 in 14 matches played.
