Former India skipper Virat Kohli has been a part of Indian Premier League (IPL) side from the very first edition of the tournament in 2008. But Kohli has never been able to lift the prestigious IPL trophy till now. In the 2016 edition of IPL, RCB skipper Virat Kohli came pretty close to win the title but in the final match of the tournament RCB had to concede a defeat by 8 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). For RCB fans the defeat was more heartbreaking as the match took place in Bengaluru.

While talking about that match, Kohli said that he feels “it was written.”

Kohli's words

“I felt like it was written. How can the final be in Bangalore and we play a season like that, we play that kind of a game where we are 100-something without a wicket in 9 overs and then” (we collapse), said Kohli while speaking on the RCB Podcast.

While recalling the painful defeat, Kohli admitted that the defeat does hurt. He also shared an incident with KL Rahul regarding the final defeat against SRH.

“To this date, when there is a highlight package coming on Star of that game, KL takes screenshots from that game and says it still hurts. And it does. You’d think about the game every now and then and how there were dejected faces in that amazing setup we had done for the post-victory celebration. It was such a huge setup and we were sat there thinking we gave our everything,” the 33-year-old Delhi-born batter added.

Match details

Batting first, SRH had registered a massive total of 2058 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. SRH skipper David Warner had played a brilliant innings of 69 runs off 358 balls. His innings was comprised of 8 boundaries and 3 sixes. Later, Yuvraj Singh (38 runs off 23 balls) and Ben Cutting (39 not out off 15 balls) played in a stunning fashion to help their side in reaching a defendable total.

In reply, RCB did start the run chase convincingly as Kohli and Chris Gayle notched an opening partnership of 114 runs. Gayle was eventually dismissed for 76 and Kohli departed scoring 54 runs. But a poor batting display from the RCB batters only helped them in reaching 200 runs in 20 overs, losing 7 wickets.
