India's legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar has revealed the advice he gave his son Arjun after the youngster did not get a chance to showcase his talent in consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons for Mumbai Indians (MI).

After getting knocked out of IPL 2022 playoffs race, MI gave chance to several players including injured Tymal Mills' replacement Tristan Stubbs. However, Arjun did not get a chance despite bowling well in the nets.

“This is a different question. What I am thinking or what I feel is not important. The season is already over.”

“And my conversation with Arjun has always been that the path is going to be challenging, it is going to be difficult. You started playing cricket because you are in love with cricket, continue to do so, continue to work hard and results will follow," Tendulkar said during an interaction with fans on his YouTube channel.

Sachin, who is mentor of the five-time IPL-winning champions also revealed that he has never involved himself in the team selection.

“And if we speak about selection, I have never involved myself in selection. I leave all these things to the (team) management because that is how I have always functioned," the 49-year-old emphasised.

The 22-year-old was expected to make his IPL debut in MI’s last clash of the season against Delhi Capitals (DC). While Arjun was seen marking his run-up before the toss, skipper Rohit Sharma did not include him in the side for DC’s must-win clash.

Arjun was roped in by MI in the IPL 2022 mega auctions for Rs 30 lakh. Gujarat Titans (GT) were the only other franchise that bid for the bowling all-rounder. The left-arm pacer was also a part of the Mumbai-based franchise in 2021. However, he left midway through the UAE leg of the season due to an injury.

After not getting a chance in IPL 2022, Arjun has also been dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the quarter-finals.
