Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) batting juggernaut Virat Kohli stormed into record books as he became the first batter to amass 7000 runs in the Indian Premier League's (IPL) history. Kohli achieved this mighty milestone in the IPL 2023's contest against Delhi Capitals at the Aun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi on Saturday (May 6).
Former RCB skipper took just 225 IPL innings to touch the magical 7000-run mark with a boundary off cut shot in Axar Patel's over.
Kohli is well ahead of the other batters in terms of most runs in IPL. Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan is second in the list of most run getter in IPL as he has 6536 runs against his name.
Kohli has been playing for RCB since the inception of IPL in 2008 and has cracked 49 fifties and five tons with an impressive average of 36.59. Kohli also holds the record of scoring most runs scored in a single edition of IPL. He scored 973 runs in IPL 2016 riding on four centuries to claim the Orange Cap.
Kohli, the man of milestone, achieved another feat as he has now completed 1000 runs against Delhi Capitals in all T20s. Kohli needed just one runs to click on this special feat. Notablt, Kohli has recorded nine half centuries against DC in IPL so far.
Earlier, Faf Du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first.
“We are going to have a bat, looks like a dry surface, and hopefully there won't be dew tonight. T20 cricket has got to do with momentum, we got to assess the conditions and post a good score. We have got a lot of away games, for me it's not an issue. With this new impact player rule, you can be so flexible. We have batted well in the top four, and we have done bulk of the scoring. Kedar Jadhav comes back for us,” RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said after winning the toss.
“We would have batted first as well. We are coming out here with a lot of energy, passion and belief. We can get only better from where we are. All facets of the game, bat, bowling and fielding. It rained today, so there might be no dew. Mukesh Kumar comes in for Anrich Nortje who has gone home and Mitch Marsh comes in as the other overseas player,” DC captain David Warner said after the toss.
