New Zealand’s tour of India will begin from November 17, 2021, with a three-match T20I series. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has opted out from the series and will be available only for the two-Test match series that will begin from November 25 in Kanpur. Veteran New Zealand pacer Tim Southee to lead the team in the absence of Williamson. On the upcoming T20I series right after the T20 World Cup, Southee said that the players in the squad will be managed throughout the series. Southee also said that it will be a new challenge of playing in India with the conditions bit similar but still, the team will need to adapt slightly.
“We’re going to have to look at throughout the series”
The New Zealand team has more or less the same squad that played the ICC T20 World Cup. The team reached the final of the marquee tournament but failed to clinch their maiden title after suffering a defeat from Australia. And now within 72 hours, the team will be back in action for the T20I series.
“Yes, it is something we’re going to have to look at throughout the series, three games and in five days, with travel days in between and then a couple of days, and then we’re into the Test series. The guys will be managed throughout the series, but we’ve got a squad of 15 here that were involved in the World Cup which I’m sure will be used throughout the series. It is a new challenge of playing in India and the conditions will be similar but I’m sure we will need to adapt slightly,” the stand-in Kiwi captain told News 18.
“I guess you are put under more pressure”
During the COVID-19 times, teams have been playing matches in bio-bubbles. Many players suffer bubble fatigue and opt-out while some have been playing without a break.
“With what’s happened in the world in the last couple of years (COVID), it had made things a lot tougher with bubbles and quarantine and it does take its toll after a while. We don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. Whether we’re gonna have to continue to play in bubbles and I guess you are put under more pressure with the quarantine time thrown as well,” the 32-year-old explained.
