Warner will retire from Test cricket with home Test series against Pakistan.

Australian opener David Warner getting a farewell Test has not gone down well with a few former cricketers. The public spat between former teammates Mitchell Johnson and Warner has been hogging the limelight ahead of the three-Test series at home against Pakistan. Johnson went on to reveal that the reason behind his outrage was a controversial text message. Reacting to the spat, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has said that the ugly spat should be solved privately.

"I just don't like this public conversation between the two of them. Just pick up the phone and sort it out. Ask the guy let's go out for a cold drink and sort the issues out. I feel there are some scars from the dressing room but don't let the world get in on this," said De Villiers on his YouTube channel.

Mr 360 also said that Warner can be brutal when he is on the field but otherwise, he is a 'gentle giant' He feels that the two have a very similar character and that's why the two personalities collided.

"I have played many cricket games with this guy (Warner) and on the field he can be brutal, but off the field, he is a gentle giant. He is a nice guy. Something switches on the field just like Dale Steyn. I have played with Davey at Delhi Daredevils and maybe there is a bit of short fuse sometimes. Maybe his and Mitch's short fuse collided," De Villiers added.

Warner was involved in the 'Sandpapergate' in 2018 on the tour of South Africa. As a result, he along with teammates Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were banned from playing cricket for a year by Cricket Australia. Johnson feels that Warner has shown a lack of accountability for his part in the scandal. The left-arm pacer also questioned his place in the side despite an ordinary run in red-ball cricket and that he does not deserve a hero's send-off.

The three-Test series will kick off on December 14 at Perth Stadium. It will be the first time Pakistan will play a Test under the leadership of new captain Shan Masood.
