The Indian team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series and the T20I series will start from February 24 (Thursday) in Lucknow. Recently, Sharma was also announced as the new skipper of the Indian Test team. After the completion of the T20I series, India and Sri Lanka will face each other in a two-match Test series as well.

 

In the recently concluded ODI and the T20I series, Indian team whitewashed West Indies cricket team convincingly and now skipper Rohit Sharma will look to keep the winning momentum alive against Sri Lanka.

 

Remarkable records

In a situation like this, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is set to achieve some historic records. Rohit is only 37 runs away from becoming the highest run-scorer in the shortest format of the game. New Zealand batter Martin Guptill is currently the leading the run-scorer in T20I cricket. The Kiwi batter currently has 3299 runs in his kitty. Former India skipper Virat Kohli is at the second spot in this list with 3296 runs under his belt. 

 

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is behind Kohli, with 3263 runs. 

 

Apart from this, Rohit needs to score 63 more runs to become the third Indian skipper to score 1000 runs in this format.

 

Former India skipper Virat Kohli is currently at the top spot in the list with 1570 runs in 50 matches. Former Indian skipper and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni finds himself at second position in this list with 1112 runs in 72 matches.

 

Rohit is at third spot with 937 runs in just 25 matches.

 

Rohit set to overtake Shoaib Malik

On the other hand, Rohit is set to overcome Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik on the list of players with the most appearances in T20I cricket.

 

Malik has till now played 124 T20I matches and Rohit on the other hand, has played 122 matches till now and after the completion of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Indian skipper can become the most capped player in T20I cricket.

 

Previously, Indian middle order batter Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Deepak Chahar were ruled out of the T20I series due to injuries.
