Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Abhijit Salvi of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has resigned from his post. Salvi confirmed the news in an exclusive chat with Sports Tak and cited personal reasons for the resignation. The India vs New Zealand series which India won 1-0 turned out to be the final one for Salvi.
"I thank the BCCI for giving me this opportunity. After 10 years in the organisation, I wanted to move on. It had become a 24x7 job in COVID times and I want to give time to myself and family," Salvi said to Sports Tak after his 10-year journey came to an end.
Mr. Salvi’s term had come to an end on November 30 but carried on till the end of the second Test match between India and New Zealand in Mumbai. In his 10 year journey at the helm of BCCI, he oversaw medical arraignments in India’s multiple tours to Australia and Sri Lanka. He also oversaw the crucial period of Covid-19 during which cricket was on hold from March 2020.
Salvi’s duties included stints in charge at various departments like age-verification, anti-doping and medical wing. The resignation comes on the eve of the U-16 boy's national championship, Vijay Merchant Trophy. The tournament was scheduled for next month and serves as the foundation stone for the young groomers of Indian cricket.
