India's World Cup-winning batter Gautam Gambhir feels that selectors should not rush Rinku Singh into Indian Team for the T20 World Cup 2024. Instead Gambhir believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal should be part of India's squad for the marquee tournament.

Gambhir suggested that Rinku should first prove himself in the domestic cricket before getting exposed to international cricket playing for the Men in Blue. The batting sensation Rinku wreaked havoc with the bat for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. His jaw-dropping match-winning five sixes against Gujarat Titans (GT) in an IPL 2023 thriller is still etched in everyone's memory.

The 25-year-old, who was the find of IPL 2023, cracked 474 runs riding on four half centuries with an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53.

"Rinku Singh’s story is inspiring and he has performed well as well. But do not select anyone after one season,” Gambhir told News18.

"Let Rinku score runs in the domestic season and then return to IPL and score runs again and if he is consistent then you can think of adding him to the Indian team,” he added.

On the other hand, Yashasvi first proved his mettle in the domestic cricket and IPL as well which helped him earn maiden call-up to Team India. The star batter was included in India's Test and T20I squads for the West Indies tour which is underway. He replicated his IPL performance on his Test debut and struck his maiden century and helped India beat West Indies.

Gambhir lavished praise on Jaiswal and said that he has been consistent with his performances in the domestic cricket and his selection was based on merit.

“In India, the issue is that we take the 2 months of IPL so seriously that whoever does well we add him to the Indian team. Jaiswal has scored a double hundred in domestic cricket both in First Class and One-Day matches,” Gambhir said.

Notably, Jaiswal amassed 625 runs in a total of 14 matches riding on five fifties and a ton with an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61.
