Gujarat-born Kashyap Prajapati played the perfect role of an anchor for Oman to help them beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by seven wickets in a run chase that went down to the final over. Opener Prajapati scored 69 runs from 53 deliveries in fifth game of the Oman Quadrangular T20I series 2022.
Waseem’s 8 sixes, Kaleem’s fifer
While Prajapati did the job for Oman, United Arab Emirates (UAE) opener Muhammad Waseem turned out to be lone warrior. Waseem scored 84 runs from 44 deliveries, more than half of his team’s total. No other batter from Oman crossed the 20-run mark in the innings. He hit three fours and eight sixes in his knock and missed out maiden T20I century as he was dismissed in the 16th over. In the end, it was Junaid Siddique’s cameo that that helped them post 164/8
For Oman, Karachi-born Aamir Kaleem picked up a five-wicket haul. It was Kaleem’s second fifer in T20I cricket. The 40-year-old left-arm spinner is the only Oman bowler to take a fifer in T20I cricket. Apart from Kaleem, it was Bilal Khan who was the most economical bowler as he conceded 15 runs in his four overs and took one wicket.
Prajapati leads the way
Oman got off to a good start with openers Jatinder Singh and Prajapati scored freely during the fielding restrictions. Jatinder got off the last ball of the final over of powerplay. He scored 22 runs off 19 deliveries including one four and one six. Prajapati kept the run chase on track with Shoaib Khan. The two shared a 71-run partnership for the second wicket. There were few hiccups in the death overs but Oman made it home easily in the end with three balls to spare.
Only win in series
In a series where UAE, Ireland, Oman and Nepal went up against each other, Oman managed to win their last match. At the end of the tournament, they finished third on the points table. They had a better net run rate (NRR) than bottom-placed Nepal. UAE and Ireland won two games each but UAE won the quadrangular series on the basis of superior NRR.
