In what comes as a depressing development, 28-year-old fast bowler Sidharth Sharma died on January 12 (Thursday) after suffering from a multiple organ failure in a hospital in Vadodara. After complaining of problems in urinating for two days, the Himachal Pradesh bowler was admitted to a hospital just before the state's Ranji Trophy game against Baroda.
The right-arm pacer represented Himachal Pradesh in six First Class matches and performed exceedingly well, scalping 25 wickets in the process. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season, Sharma bagged a five-wicket haul at the Eden Gardens against Bengal while he accounted for 12 wickets in two matches in India's premier domestic tournament this season.
"I am shocked by the demise of Sidharth Sharma, a talented fast bowler of Himachal Pradesh cricket team. Sidharth was a promising player, team spirit was his speciality. His death is a great loss to cricket. May god give strength to the family members to bear this sorrow. Om Shanti," Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said on Twitter.
Sharma was part of the Himachal Pradesh side that won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also joined the long list of high-profile people who shared condolences message after the shocking death of Sharma.
"Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed deep grief over the demise of Sidharth Sharma, a member of Himachal’s Vijay Hazare Trophy-winning cricket team and the state’s star fast bowler. The Chief Minister has expressed his deepest condolences with the berethe aved families," Himachal Pradesh CMO account said in a Tweet.
