After the ICC revealed the dates for the upcoming ODI World Cup in Delhi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement that they will need clearance from the government before confirming their participation in the ODI World Cup. The tournament is starting on October 5 with a match between England and New Zealand, with Pakistan playing the next day on October
"The PCB requires clearance from the Government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including the match venues," a spokesman for the Pakistan board said in a statement following the release of the full schedule of the ODI World Cup on Tuesday, June 27.
"We are in communication with our government to seek guidance, and once we receive a response from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This stance aligns with what we communicated to the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared the draft schedule with us and sought our feedback," added the spokesman.
Pakistan will start their campaign against Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad on October 6. After their Qualifier 2 game on October 12, they will travel to Ahmedabad to take on India in a mighty clash on October 15.
Pakistan's other matches are scheduled for October 20 against Australia in Bengaluru, then against Afghanistan in Chennai on October 23, October 27 against South Africa in Chennai, against Bangladesh in Kolkata on October 31, against New Zealand in Bengaluru on November 4, rounding their league stage with a match against England in Kolkata on November 12.
FORMAT OF THE TOURNAMENT
Much like the last edition in 2019, 10 teams will participate in the tournament. Seven have already qualified by virtue of the Cricket World Cup Super League, while India were already in the tournament as hosts. The remaining two teams will emerge from the ODI World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe. The two finalists will make it to the mega event in October where each team will play the other nine in a round-robin format. The top four will qualify for the knockout stage and the semifinals.
All three knock-out fixtures will be day-night affairs, with the matches beginning at 14:00 local time. The tournament, spanning across 46 days and 48 matches. There are six league matches during the day, which will start at 10:30 am IST while the other matches will be day-night games starting at 2:00 pm IST.
