A six-year ban from all cricket-related activities has been imposed on Sunny Dhillon, a former assistant coach of a franchise side in the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League. After incidents during the 2021 tournament, the Emirates Cricket Board found Dhillon guilty of violating its Anti-Corruption Code. Eight people were charged last year, including Dhillon, for allegedly trying to rig match results. The Emirates Cricket Board's Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) discovered these violations during the competition.

Dhillon charged with these violations

Following a comprehensive inquiry, a tribunal hearing determined that Dhillon had broken three particular ECB Anti-Corruption Code articles. Among the violations are:

  • Article 2.1.1: Being involved in an attempt to fix, contrive, or improperly influence matches or aspects of matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2021.
  • Article 2.4.4: Failing to disclose full details of any approaches or invitations to engage in corrupt conduct to the DACO.
  • Article 2.4.6: Refusing to cooperate with the DACO's investigation without providing valid justification.

The ban dates back to Dhillon's provisional suspension on September 13, 2023. This ruling demonstrates the ECB's unwavering commitment to upholding cricket's integrity by penalizing any unethical behaviour. A complete presentation of the evidence, including both written and oral arguments, was part of the tribunal process. Dhillon received a six-year suspension after being found guilty of all charges during the deliberations. The alleged fraudulent actions were stopped at the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2021 by the prompt intervention of the ICC and the DACO.

Their initiatives highlight how crucial it is to be vigilant and strictly enforce anti-corruption policies in cricket. This decision sends a clear message to all officials and athletes about the negative effects of corruption. The ECB is still dedicated to upholding fair play and safeguarding the game's reputation. A well-liked short-format competition, the Abu Dhabi T10 League draws participants and spectators from all over the world.

Incidents like this, however, highlight the necessity of ongoing oversight to protect the sport's reputation. The fact that Sunny Dhillon was banned shows how seriously cricket's regulatory bodies take corruption. The governing bodies of cricket will take firm action against anyone trying to damage the sport's reputation, as this suspension makes clear to all parties involved. It also emphasizes how crucial cooperation and openness are to investigations in order to preserve the sport's ideals.
