'If Delhi cricket need my help... I can't see them going down': World Cup-winner Madan Lal offers to guide after maiden loss to J&K in Ranji Trophy history

India's 1983 World Cup-winning all-rounder and first-class cricket stalwart, Madan Lal has offered to help Delhi's Ranji Trophy a day after their first-ever loss to Jammu & Kashmir in the tournament's 65-year history.

Lal believes that the system of Delhi cricket needs to be sorted and there is nothing wrong with the amount of talent. He is disheartened to see the downfall of Delhi cricket.

“Nothing wrong with the Delhi cricket. You have to set the system right.i will do it for the Delhi cricket,” Lal wrote on X. “Blue print not work here. Congratulations to J&K.”

 

 

 

“If Delhi cricket need my help. I will be happy to do it for Delhi. I played for Delhi 18 seasons. I can’t see them going down,” he added.

 

 

In the Elite Group D clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, Paras Dogra's Jammu & Kashmir won by seven wickets.

Madan Lal's stellar first-class record -

The pace-bowling all-rounder has 625 wickets from 232 first-class games at an average of 25.50, including 27 fifers. With the bat he averages 42.87 with 10,204 runs, including 22 centuries and 50 fifties.

Batting collapses hurt Delhi

Delhi were bowled out for 211 in 69 overs in the first innings. Apart from skipper Ayush Badonni, Ayush Doseja and Sumit Mathur's fifties, no Delhi batter made an impact as Auqib Nabi rushed through the lineup with a fifer.

In the bowling department, Simarjeet Singh lacked support. Simarjeet claimed a fifer but Jammu & Kashmir managed to post 310 on the board, taking a 99-run lead. Dogra scored a century whereas Abdul Samad contributed with an 85-run knock.

Delhi's top five batters got starts but could not convert them into big scores. Badoni and Doseja scored fifties again but Delhi suffered a collapse. From 244/3, they were bowled out for 277 as Vanshaj Sharma took six wickets.

The target of 179 was never going to be enough to challenge the visitors. They got early wickets but Qamran Iqbal fired from the other end. He scored 133 runs from 147 balls as Jammu & Kashmir won the match by seven wickets.

Lacklustre run in ongoing season

Delhi are currently placed sixth in Group D, just above Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh. Before the historic loss to Jammu & Kashmir, they played three draws.
