Team India is all set to travel to South Africa next month for three Tests, three ODIs and four T20Is. The tour was in danger of getting postponed indefinitely because of the new variant of Covid-19. However, according to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source, the tour has got the initial green light and players will travel to the nation which is currently on the red list for Omicron variant of the virus.
“We are good to go for the series in South Africa we are in constant touch with the South Africa cricket board and things will move as planned. We are keeping close eyes on the development and there is nothing to worry about,” the source told Sports Tak.
India’s tour of South Africa was in doubt after the Proteas' latest series against the Netherlands was cancelled due to the increasing cases of the deadly virus. The decision was taken during the first ODI between the two nations. Multiple European nations have put South Africa on the red list, which means tourists will have to quarantine themselves when they return from the variant hit nation.
The tour has already got its fear share of news before the team has even left the nation. India is due to travel to South Africa on December 8 as the first Test match gets underway at Johannesburg on December 17. Meanwhile, the India A team is currently playing the second unofficial Test of the three-match series.
