Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon is dissatisfied with England players' decision to withdraw their names from the upcoming Ashes series, which will begin in December.

Few English players believe Cricket Australia's (CA) bio-bubble standards are too rigorous, making it impossible for them to obey and stay away from their families. However, Lyon believes it’s just a small piece they are paying in comparison to what they are getting in return.

ECB Review

Within this week, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) may assess all of CA's Covid-19 protocols and the players of the arrangements on the long tour. It's also possible that more English players will withdraw from the Ashes in the coming days.

England's key players will compete in the T20 World Cup this year, and according to a few reports, the players are tired of the bio-bubble procedures enforced by various boards, and they want to spend time with their families.

‘I would have gone for it’

Lyon stated that rather than opting out he would have definitely gone for the Ashes in Australia if he was in place of an England player.

“I can probably understand it, but I think as professional athletes and cricketers we’re so lucky in what we do and it really comes upon us to give back to the game that’s given us so much. I wouldn’t have a doubt in coming out if it was myself. Especially in an Ashes series. An Ashes series, they’re the type of series that can honestly make someone’s career," Lyon told Fox Sports in a podcast.

Australia haven't played red-ball cricket from the past eight months, their last Test was against India at Brisbane and since then they haven’t played the format. The veteran off-spinner is eagerly waiting for the Ashes challenge at home despite Covid-19 restrictions.

"I’ve been home for the past eight months or so, so I’m itching to get out there, Playing in bio-bubble circumstances is difficult, but playing the Ashes will certainly worth it," he added.
