Australia Test skipper captain Pat Cummins insists that he has no idea whether coach Justin Langer will continue as the head coach of the side, as he enters the final year of his contract. Langer, who guided the Aussies to the famous 4-0 Ashes win in January was also instrumental in guiding them to their maiden T20 World Cup in November. However, Cummins has left the ball in Cricket Australia's (CA) court, on whether Langer's contract will eventually be extended or or not.

Cummins speaks
"It's in Cricket Australia's hands. JL's been doing a fantastic job, he's been there for four years, his contract is obviously up soon, they're just going through an evaluation process at the moment, which I think is fair, the right thing to do," Cummins was quoted while talking to Sydney Morning Herald.

"We all get evaluated all the time as cricketers. It's part of a high-performance environment. That process is happening, it's a decision for Cricket Australia and we just have to wait. That's Cricket Australia's job, it's not my job. I've really loved my time working with JL," the Australian skipper added.

Multiple reports
As per reports from the Australian media, Langer had a heated altercation with the CA officials and was asked to reapply for the post.

This didn't go well with the 51-year-old former opening batsman, as he made his discontent felt. Cummins, on the other hand, has vowed to stay away from the matter despite being a prominent figure in the squad during the coach's time.

"There's been a process, I've been part of that, a lot of other players have been part of that. It's just like when we get evaluated. I've got huge respect for JL, I've really liked working with him, but it's not my call," Cummins further added.

Langer could have joined a rare class of personalities to whitewash England in the Ashes as both coach and player. He was previously a part of the Australian team, led by Ricky Ponting in 2006-07 that inflicted a whitewash and was close to doing so as a coach before the Sydney Test ended in stalemate.

It now remains to be seen what will be CA's decision regarding this..

The T20 World Cup winners will next take on Sri Lanka in a five-match T20I series before they travel to Pakistan. The Pakistan tour still remains to be uncertain. It is also expected that Langer's future could be settled in the coming days, provided there is still time remaining in his contract.
