After acquiring two franchises in the newly formed T20 leagues of the United Arab Emirates -- the International League T20 -- and South Africa's CSA T20 League, five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians, on Wednesday, August 10, announced their names -- ‘MI Emirates’ and ‘MI Cape Town’.
Owned by Reliance Industries Limited, the press release issued by the club also mentioned that the players will wear the iconic blue and gold of the team.
The names were chosen because keeping in mind the specific regions from where the teams will be based. The teams have been aptly named phonetically as well, ‘MI Emirates’ or 'MY Emirates' and ‘MY Cape Town’ respectively, and are dedicated to fans across both the Emirates and Cape Town.
These two new clubs take the iconic Mumbai Indians identity to mark the global expansion of the franchise.
