India captain Mithali Raj has retained her third spot in the latest International cricket Council (ICC) rankings for batters in women’s cricket. The latest rankings also see Jhulan Goswami keep her second spot in the bowlers rankings.
The qualifiers for the 2022 Womens World Cup are currently on going in Zimbabwe to determine who plays in the showpiece event next year. Mithali in third trails South African Lizelle Lee and Australia’s Alyssa Healy in the standings. The Indian captain is joined by Smriti Mandhana in the Top 10 rankings for batters at six.
Jess Jonassen tops the rankings for women bowlers; the Australian is in devastating form in the ongoing WBBL. The qualifiers in Zimbabwe did however have significant impact on the standings as Pakistan bowler Nashra Sandhu jumped four places to 17th. Her bowling figures of 2/24 against Bangladesh was the reason behind her pivotal rise in the rankings.
Bangladesh batters were also big beneficiaries of the qualifiers as Rumana Ahmed and Fargana Hoque moved up the ranking, with the latter scoring 90 runs off 45 balls in their recent qualifier.
Indian fans though should expect plenty from their top performers in coming days as the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana are putting knocks down under in Australia’s WBBL. Harmanpreet remained unbeaten for 81 and has been handy with the ball as well. On the other hand, Mandhana recently equalled a WBBL record with her maiden T20 century.
