India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his views on the hot topic of IPL 2025 i.e. Will Rohit Sharma stay in Mumbai Indians? According to him, Rohit will continue playing for MI in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League despite not getting the captaincy. MI is one of the most successful franchises in the league. They appointed Hardik Pandya as their new captain in IPL 2024 taking the captaincy throne from Rohit. The move saw an immense backlash and criticism from their fans with the crowd booing Pandya at every stage.
"Even if you think like Rohit, it’s not wrong at all. I don’t want any headache. I have been a captain for India. I have captained Mumbai many times. Even if I am not a captain, I am going to Mumbai happily. If I play for Mumbai, it’s super. I am sure most players are like that. After a stage, money doesn’t matter for some of those players. That’s the thing."
BCCI to soon announce retention rules
The BCCI has yet to announce the number of retentions and the auction rules. According to reports, the BCCI will likely announce the retention rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction most probably in September, which is scheduled towards the end of this year. The number of retentions allowed per franchise will determine the future of some Indian players. Reports also suggest that Rohit can fetch a whopping amount in auctions as teams are eyeing to buy the Indian captain if Mumbai releases him.

LSG owner also opened up on all these rumors about taking Rohit Sharma in the upcoming season of the tournament. In the exclusive conversation with Sports Tak, Goenka said that it is nearly impossible to spend 50 crore on just one cricketer.
"You tell me. Do you know if Rohit Sharma is coming into the auction? No one knows. This is all unnecessary. Whether Mumbai Indians release Rohit Sharma or not. Whether Rohit Sharma comes into the auction or not. Even if he comes, if you spend 50% of your purse on one player, then how will you buy the other 22 players."
Rohit had a good season with bat scoring 417 runs at an average of 32.07 and a strike rate of 150. He also scored a century against the arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. The 37-year-old has 5458 runs at an average of 29.50 to his name while playing for MI.
