The Netherlands have officially pulled off the plug on the South Africa tour as they have decided to call off the three-match ODI series. They could return back to their home nation on immediate terms after a decision was made in a meeting between the two boards, as per a report by ESPNCricinfo. The writing was on the wall as the limited-overs series between Netherlands and South Africa which started today (November 26) at Centurion was in a spot of bother with a sudden spike in cases of new variant of Covid-19.

At the time of writing, the Netherlands were chasing 278 in reply to South Africa's 277/8 and batting on 11/0. With the sudden rise of the new coronavirus variant in several parts of the African continent, the United Kingdom (UK) Government has suspended flights from South Africa and other African countries.

The government will resume the flights on Sunday (November 28) after preparing all the quarantine facilities for the passengers arriving from African regions. Furthermore, the government has enforced 10 days mandatory hotel quarantine on any UK and Irish resident arriving after 4 AM on Sunday morning.

The Dutch team have plenty of players in their camp who are associated with the English countries and stay in the UK’s territory. The next ODI is scheduled on Sunday  which is the same day on which flights will be resumed.

The decision was taken as the players may get stuck in South Africa for a significant number of days considering the travel concerns and strict rules set by the UK Government. However, there isn’t any official announcement from the team officials regarding the matter yet.
