Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday (December 27) night . According to BCCI source, Ganguly has been admitted to a city hospital (Woodlands Nursing Home). The former Indian captain has contracted the virus despite being double vaccinated.
The doctors at the hospital informed that Ganguly's sample is being tested for the Omicron variant.
"Mr Sourav Ganguly, BCCI President and former Indian cricket captain, got admitted at Woodlands Multispecialty Hospital on December 27, 2021 late evening with Covid Positive status," Woodlands Hospital said in an official statement.
However, he was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure after his RT-PCR result returned positive. Earlier this year, the 49-year-old had undergone angioplasty after struggling with cardiac issues.
“He received Monoclonal Antibody Cocktail therapy on the same night and is currently haemodynamically stable,” Dr Rupali Basu, MD & CEO of Woodlands Hospital, said in a statement.
“A medical board comprising Dr Saroj Mondal, Dr Saptarshi Basu and Dr Soutik Panda in consultation with Dr Devi Shetty and Dr Aftab Khan is keeping a close watch on his health status,” Basu added.
The former India captain is on medication and his health condition is currently stable.
Earlier this year Ganguly’s brother Snehashish had tested positive for the novel coronavirus as well and recovered.
Ganguly's fans poured their wishes for the former India captain on social media, hoping for his quick recovery. The COVID-19 situation in India is worsening again with each passing day as the country recorded over 6,000 new cases on Tuesday.
