As Virat Kohli ended his century drought across formats within few months, the buzz around him breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries picked up again. After playing 274 ODIs, Kohli is now four ODI centuries away from breaking Master Blaster's long-standing record that was once considered almost unbreakable. While Kohli gives more importance to team's success when compared to personal milestones, the former Indian skipper reveals that it will be an emotional moment for him to break his childhood idol's record.

The 34-year-old was asked about his thoughts on breaking Tendulkar's record to which he replied promptly, "it will be a very emotional moment for me".

During the conversation Kohli talked about his early memories of playing the sport with players older than him while stressing on the role sports plays in one’s life.

"Sports teaches you some values of life, discipline and planning. It opens up your side, making you a productive person. No matter which profession you are in, the value of playing sport is immense.

"Don't make them [students] just play sports, teach them. It is important to teach them small details of what it means to play a sport,” Kohli adds as he further recalls the incident that took off the pressure of studies from him when his school’s vice principal advised him to religiously follow cricket."

On May 11, Kohli also paid an emotional tribute to his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma on Instagram. "For some, sport will always come second so I feel it’s very important to celebrate those who believed in you from day one. I am forever grateful to Rajkumar sir who has not just been a coach to me, but also a mentor who has supported me throughout my journey. I was just a boy who dared to dream but it was your belief that helped me don the Indian jersey 15 years ago", Kohli wrote.

"For every bit of advice, every batting lesson, every smack on my head, every pat on my back and for carrying my dream as your own, I want to thank you", the 34-year-old added.
